The story so far
What we do and where we've come from
Experience the best of EuropeBased in Barcelona for the past 16 years, we’re a team of around 50 professional Europhiles, focused on making sure our clients enjoy the continent’s cities as much as we do. ‘Oh’ is an abbreviation of our company name (Open House), and has come to represent the pride we take in what we do, the professionalism we bring to our work and the fun we have doing it.
We offer you a choice of over 2,000 holiday apartments in walk-in condition across top European cities – whether you’re after a modern loft conversion in London or a chic suite in Paris.
- We're an independent, private company, headquartered in Barcelona
- We have over 16 years' industry experience, having launched in 1997
- We offer you handpicked holiday apartments across Europe´s hottest cities
GowithOh goes giddyWith a troupe of 10 European cities now flying the flag of 'Oh', we decided in 2012 that it was time to house all of our destinations under one roof. Like a sort of online Big Top, without the human cannonball.
And so GowithOh was launched.
We also started working alongside our friends in the travel blogging community, running a biannual competition to find the official GowithOh guest blogger who would win a month’s stay across our European city break apartments.
Great expectations2011 was a major milestone year for Oh, as we opened up five new websites in six European languages. We were growing in more ways than one, as we expanded our Barcelona headquarters, took on more staff, and moved into another part of the tourism sector that’s becoming ever more popular - hostels.
Meanwhile, we were beavering away on the launch of our Berlin city guide, offering our inside take and top tips on the German capital.
Booting up in ItalyCome 2010, we were very excited to be entering a brand new country, with the launch of Oh-Rome.com. This was to be the start of a love affair with Italy that would see us opening up sites in Florence and Venice just one year later.
Our Barcelona headquarters were continuing to welcome newcomers from all around Europe, and we signed on the dotted line to open up satellite offices in both Paris and Berlin.
Talk of the townWe love our city, and we want our clients to think it’s the bees’ knees too. So in 2009 we launched our multilingual Barcelona blog – with articles covering everything from how to skip the queues at La Pedrera to the city’s best nudist beaches (don’t ask).
We also launched our Barcelona discount voucher scheme, giving our clients exclusive access to savings on all things sporting, cultural and generally fun across the city. Meanwhile, our online community had started to take on a life of its own, offering great tips and travel advice.
Going up in the worldBy 2006 we were on the move – upping sticks to a shiny new office in Barcelona’s L’Eixample district. We had expanded in more ways than one, with four websites in six European languages and a total of 30 staff.
Some big fish in the world of online tourism were starting to take note, too, with Time Out, the national and international press, consulates and embassies all starting to recommend our ‘Oh’ city accommodation.
Europe callingIt's 2004, and we’re getting itchy feet. Branching out from Barcelona, we set our sights on the hotspots of Paris and Berlin, launching websites offering self-catering apartments and hotels in both cities.
We also kicked off what was to become a long-term relationship with Oxfam, donating cash from each client booking towards the charity’s projects.
Back in the beginning...Oh-lé!Open House (aka 'Oh') burst onto Barcelona back in 1998. We launched hot on the heels of the Olympic Games, when the city was just starting to carve out a name for itself as the capital of cool.
There weren't very many of us then, but what we lacked in personnel we made up for in caffeine intake. We were on a mission - to turn tourism in Barcelona on its head. No dingy digs or dodgy dives for us! It's quality holiday apartments only, all the way.
