Sri Dhanvantari – Centre for Ayurveda and Wellness in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg

Relax on November 16, 2011 9:16 am

Escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours, and slip away to an oasis of quietude and relaxation. Traditional spa and Ayurveda treatments, performed by highly-trained, experienced therapists, await you directly in the heart of Prenzlauer Berg. So come on in, treat yourself to a break from all of the hectic sightseeing you’ve been doing, and recharge your batteries.

Ayurveda, literally translated, means “knowledge of life,” and is the oldest medical science on record. Its practices were first put down in writing more than 5000 years ago, and are still employed frequently today, particularly in countries such as India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Ayurveda doctrine also enjoys great popularity in Germany; the massages with warm scented oils, for instance, are often used to relax and rejuvenate the body.

During a city break here in Berlin, when you’re confronted with countless new sensations, impressions, and experiences, it’s all too easy to put rest and relaxation on the back burner. For this reason, it’s important to take a deep breath and restore calm once in a while, so that you can head back out on your voyage of discovery through Berlin with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

In Prenzlauer Berg, on the scenic Husemanstraße, you’ll find the Sri Dhanvantari Center for Ayurveda and Wellness. This small center is lovingly decorated, and attracts visitors with its warm, almost home-like atmosphere. As you enter, exotic scents of oils and teas waft through the air, and you’ll have no trouble leaving the mad rush of the city at the door.

And in case you’re still not convinced, we’ve thought of a few more reasons why you, as a Berlin visitor, should be sure to pay a visit to the Centre:

    • The location in Prenzlauer Berg. We can’t think of a better way to wind down after a long stroll through this most popular of Berlin’s neighborhoods than to indulge in a relaxing and rejuvenating massage or spa treatment.
    • The highly-skilled therapists have up to 18 years of experience, guaranteeing that all treatments they provide will leave you in a state of true relaxation and bliss.
    • Wide and diverse selection of massages and beauty treatments at fair prices. You won’t have to pay for any unnecessary gimmicks here.
    • The home-like and warm-hearted atmosphere. You won’t be treated like you’re just another name in an appointment book.
    • Offers also available for two persons and for children.
      • No shower facilities
      • Please make all appointments in advance, by phone
Massages and spa treatments

All massages are conducted in private rooms on heated loungers. Afterwards, you can also indulge in an Ayurvedic steam bath.

Abhyanga /Full-body massage
Duration: 60 or 90 minutes
The entire body, including head, face, throat, neck, and decollete, will be massaged in both prone and supine positions, using warm scented oils.  The rhythmic flow of this massage is designed to stimulate the metabolism, as well as the lymphatic and nervous systems, thereby encouraging the regeneration of tissue and organs.

Synchronized Abhyanga /Full-body massage, 4-handed
Duration: 60 minutes
Based on ancient Indian tradition, this treatment is carried out by two therapists (4-handed), who massage simultaneously, in a rhythmically synchronized fashion.  With smoothly gliding, yet forceful movements, the entire body will be lovingly massaged in the prone and supine positions, with warm scented oils.

Swedana /Ayurvedic steam bath
Duration: 20 minutes
Reclining steam bath with Ayurvedic bouquet garni.  Designed to purge, warm, and detoxify the body. A traditional practice following all massage treatments.

Shirodhara / the royal oil treatment
Duration: 60 minutes
Prior to the pouring of the oil, the proper mood is set through a thorough, soothing, and relaxing face, head, decollete, throat, and neck massage.  Afterward, warm oil is poured steadily and rhythmically across the forehead, instantly relieving all tension.

Spa Treatment Day
Duration: 4-5 hours
With the Spa Treatment Day, you can indulge in a full-body massage with warm scented oils, a thorough head and facial massage, as well as a cozy reclining steam bath, with specially-selected Ayurvedic herbs.  During the breaks between sessions, you’ll be served a fruit plate, Ayurvedic sweets, and teas.  And for the grand finale, you can spoil yourself with the royal Shirodhara oil treatment.

Beauty Treatment Day
Duration: 3-4 hours
Today, it’s all about you.  You’ll be pampered with a 90-minute full-body massage and a bouquet garni steam bath.  Following that, refreshments – including a fruit plate, Ayurvedic sweets, and tea – are served in the relaxation room.  And in closing, you’ll receive an Ayurvedic beauty treatment, complete with a facial.
