You’re in a new city, you don’t speak the language, and your schedule is tight? A city sightseeing tour on board a “HopOn HopOff” Bus is just what the doctor ordered. It’s an enjoyable way to learn important and interesting facts about the city, without tiring your feet – and, at many stops, you can get off the bus, do some exploring on your own, and get on again to continue your journey.

There are countless reasons to take a HopOn HopOff sightseeing tour of Berlin, especially if you’re not familiar with the city, and are looking to get a good general overview of your surroundings:

  • You travel easily from point A to point B, learning about the history of the city along the way.
  • At numerous stops, you’re allowed to get off the bus to check out the neighborhood at your own pace.
  • You’re also permitted to board the bus again at a different stop, which enables you to map out your very own route.
  • Your feet will be well-rested, which is a good thing, since you’ll no doubt need them for dancing later.

So you’ve decided to take a HopOn HopOff sightseeing tour? In Berlin, you’re pretty much spoiled for choice; there are numerous tour companies to choose from, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to pick one. We took it upon ourselves to check out all of the various options on behalf of our customers, and we feel confident in saying that Berlin City Tour offers the most comprehensive selection of tours in all of Berlin. And in case you’re not convinced, here are a few crucial and important facts to help you understand why we think so:

  • They’re the only company that offers two bus routes through the city (the Classic Tour and the Wall & Lifestyle)
  • A Combi-Ticket for both routes is available, and is valid for two days
  • Live commentary in German and English on all green buses
  • Audio information via headphones, in 9 different languages, on all red CitySightseeing buses or live commentary in German and English (check the timetable online)
  • You can combine a bus tour with a boat sightseeing tour
  • Numerous themed tour routes also available

So don’t wait another minute; Berlin City Tour looks forward to welcoming you as their guest. The buses are easily recognizable – they’re either green and beige, with the Berlin City Tour logo, or red, with the CitySightseeing logo. You can purchase tickets from the ticket takers on site or on-line (which will save you 1 Euro per head).

Details about the tours

With Berlin City Tour, you have a choice of 3 different routes, two bus routes and another on board a boat.

The red tour, otherwise known as the Classic Tour (red), is perfect for Berlin newbies, since it takes you past all important points of interest in the city, and provides detailed information on the history of Berlin. Buses leave from Tauentzienstr 16 (close to Bahnhof Zoo), and there are 13 stops along the route. You’re allowed to board the bus at any of the various stops. Buses leave every 20-30 minutes; a complete round trip takes approximately 2 hours.

The green route, or Wall & Lifestyle Tour (green), travels to the eastern part of the city, following the path of the Berlin Wall and giving you a glimpse of the former East Berlin. As an added bonus, the buses travel through the trendy Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood. The complete tour lasts about 2 hours and encompasses 12 stops. At the Rotes Rathaus, Hauptbahnhof, and Alexanderplatz stops, you can also transfer to the red tour buses – provided, of course, that you’ve purchased a Combi-Ticket.

In addition, Berlin City Tour offers an optional boat tour, the blue line, which can be combined with the Classic bus Tour. Discovering Berlin via its waterways is a completely new and different experience. You can board the boat at the East Side Gallery, the historic Harbor, or at Holsteiner Ufer.

For more information about the routes, please refer to the website of Berlin City Tours.

Additional notes
  • Please refer to the website in advance for current departure times, particularly during the off-season.
  • Journeys on the red and green lines are only possible through the purchase of a Combi-Ticket; said tickets are valid for two days. In the Winter months, it’s especially important to verify the dates and times for the green line tours, since they’re only offered on certain days.
  • Tickets can be purchased on location, exclusively from ticket takers or the bus driver, as well as online.
  • Due to legal reasons, no signs can be found at the upcoming stops (except at stop one – Tauentzienstrasse 16). However, at the main stops like Alexanderplatz and the Brandenburger Gate there are always several busses and people selling tickets so the stations can’t be missed. It is more difficult to find the ones on the remote stops, especially on the green route. It is advisable, therefore, to check them out beforehand and to carry a map.
